Cubs pick Quade as new manager

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have picked Mike Quade (kwah-dee) as their new manager.

The team announced a two-year contract with Quade on Tuesday, with a club option for the 2013 season.

The 53-year-old Quade had served as interim manager for the Cubs after Lou Piniella stepped down in late August. He was the Cubs third case coach for nearly four seasons.

Wedge takes on rebuilding in Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) - Eric Wedge spoke with intensity and passion, pledging his role as the Seattle Mariners' newest manager will be based around accountability and respect.

Wedge was introduced on Tuesday as the seventh manager of the Mariners since the start of the 2003 season. Sporting a new mustache absent the last time he was seen on a major league bench, Wedge said everything about the Mariners felt right.

Wedge was selected from a group of five finalists interviewed by Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik.

Source: NFL, Favre meet about photos

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - A person with knowledge of the situation says Brett Favre has spoken with an NFL security official about text messages and lewd photos he allegedly sent to a New York Jets employee two years ago when he played for the team.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because details of the meeting between Favre and NFL vice president for security Milt Ahlerich were not made public.

ESPN first reported the meeting, citing unidentified sources.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said previously the Vikings quarterback would meet this week with a league official about the messages and graphic photos he allegedly sent to Jenn Sterger, now a TV personality with the Versus network.
