A Correction. In the Appeal's report of Senator Sharon's speech the other day, the sentence occurs, "I am happy to say that I am a resident of Ohio." This mistake occurred in the rush of a midnight makeup, and the word "resident" should have been "native."

100 years ago

Bird men will fly at Reno, probably a week from Sunday according to plans now on foot to bring two daring young aviators from San Francisco. Wiseman and Prentice each have a bi-plane of the Farman type, equipped with an 8-cylinder, 100 horsepower motor of the Wiseman-Hall design. They have studied under Charles K. Hamilton, one of the leading aeroplane artists of the country.

Lieut. Robert McLeod, brother of Surveyor General Wayne McLeod of Nevada, gave the Lions of Carson City an interesting talk on his experience at four fields for training members of the nation's air corps.

50 years ago

Former President Harry S. Truman will visit the University of Nevada campus in Reno where he will address the student body as a "non-partisan."

A state traffic engineer admitted he screwed up when he recommended Stewart Street as a truck route. Truckers said they would have to make three 90 degree turns rather than go through the middle of town. At the time, some 300 trucks go through Carson, increasing the possibility of accidents.

10 years ago

Volunteers are gathered at Taylor Creek to squeeze hundreds of thousands of eggs out of spawning Kokanee salmon. Over a few days, the group will collect some 1.5 million eggs.
