The region could encounter wind gusts of up to 70 mph today, prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a high wind warning through 11 p.m. tonight.
That means high profile vehicles should be careful driving in wind-prone areas.
Winds will be 20 mph to 30 mph for most of the day and will be followed by more rain tonight, said Katie LaBelle, a meteorologist with the NWS in Reno.
"Right behind the winds we'll have a cold front and we'll start getting some high elevation snow," she said.
Temperatures are also expected to drop below normal on Monday and Tuesday, with a low of 25 expected by Wednesday morning.
Isolated showers are expected to continue Monday.
