Nobody Asked Us, But ... If you haven't voted yet, then do so on Nov. 2

How inconvenient that our politicians are imperfect like we are. How inconvenient they can't, or won't, deliver on promises made on the campaign trail. Republican, Democrat, Tea Partier, or Independent ... much rhetoric, full of promises, coming up empty.

We are reminded of a candidate four years ago, who, when asked what she would do in office if elected, replied, "Well, I don't know what the office does just yet." Really? When will you find out? Or the candidate who answered the question, "Why are you running?" with, "I don't care about the job, but it gives me something to do." Well, you can bet we rushed right out to vote for both of them.

•••

Nonetheless, we urge you to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 2, if you haven't voted already. Just don't be like the lady who said she couldn't vote unless her husband was with her. "I don't know who to vote for." Well, find out. Don't depend on someone else to tell you.

Cheers to the Presbyterians, doctors, hospital and Sen. Reid, for bringing the gentleman from Ethiopia to Carson City for heart surgery. What a wonderful story. You will notice that Reid was instrumental in helping him get to the United States. We wonder what the candidate of "no" would've done. Probably, "not her job."

By the way, for those of you who hate the stimulus program ... how many of you sent your stimulus check back? Or opted out of Social Security, VA benefits or Medicare?

Happy birthday to Maria O'Neill (a Halloween baby), and Russ Law (aka Brother Boomer), Carolyn's boss, who retired last Friday and really has something to celebrate (who's going to watch the Big C now?). Have a great BD and retirement. Don't forget the Nevada Day parade at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 (and the McKeen car will be running at the Railroad Museum from 10-4 p.m.). Halloween trick or treating will be on the 31st, so watch out for ghosts and goblins.

Speaking of Russ Law, he sent this one in off the Internet: "A man boarded a plane with six kids. After they got settled in their seats, a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over and asked, 'Are all of these your kids?' He replied, 'No. I work for a condom company ... these are customer complaints.'"

Genevieve Frederick, founder of Pets of the Homeless, a nationwide organization, is requesting pet food of all kinds to be donated to those who are homeless, or have a hard time providing for their pets. There are many dropoff places in Carson City that will accept pet food for dogs, cats, birds, you name it. Go to www.petsofthehomeless.org and find a place in CC to donate. Arf, meow, chirp ... all "thank you for remembering us."

After reading about the Firkin & Fox 5K run a couple of weeks ago, Ann Erwin wrote to us about her dad greeting the whole family at the finish line. Her dad, longtime resident and teacher Mike Pintar, is suffering from pancreatic cancer, so her mother, Ruth, walked and finished in a very respectable time for her age group (39 and holding), while the rest of the family also walked or ran. As Ann told us, "His chemo treatments continue, but events like this bring him joy." Way to go, Mikey. You're a great guy! And you're lucky to have such a neat family.

Carolyn wants to know if anyone dislikes the fuzzy pink tummy and gut commercial as much as she does? To everyone, have a wonderful week.
