VistaCare Hospice is seeking volunteers to work in the Carson City, Dayton, Gardnerville area.

Hospice is a comprehensive program of care that addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients with life-ending illnesses, and to provide support services for their family members. Care is provided by both healthcare professionals and trained volunteers.

VistaCare is an established hospice services provider in the Reno/Carson area.

Volunteers service in a variety of ways, helping with everything from running errands to providing grief and bereavement support.

Volunteers are needed

to:

• Visit with patients to provide the caregiver a time of respite;

• Assist with basic maintenance, yard and handy work at patients' homes;

• Run errands;

• Spend time visiting with the patients and their families to provide companionship.

"People often ask me why I volunteer," said Megan Carnahan, a VistaCare volunteer. "I tell them that I get something from it each day. I become more grateful. I add to my understanding of life."

To be a VistaCare volunteer, candidates need to have a willingness to serve others at a critical time in their lives. They also need reliable transportation.
