A convicted sex offender with several arrest warrants was pulled from his hiding space Monday night by a Carson City Sheriff's K9.

Gregg Rowland, 45, unemployed from Carson City, was arrested in the 100 block of South Division Street at 11:33 p.m. on suspicion of felony failure to register as a sex offender, felony parole violation out of California, misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence and failure to appear on a DUI charge.

According to the arrest report, officers went to 114 S. Division St. about 10:15 p.m. in search of Rowland.

When deputies knocked on the door, they could see through a window a man run to the rear of the house. A woman inside opened the door and confirmed the man seen running was Rowland, the report states. Three other men in the home reported Rowland was in the attic space toward the front of the home, according to the report.

When deputies searched the area they could not find Rowland. But officers did find a crawlspace.

After announcing several times that he had a dog, Deputy Jimmy Surratt unleashed K9 Ary into the crawlspace, the report states.

"We'd have never found (Rowland) if it hadn't been for Ary. He did good," said Surratt. "The crawlspace ran the entire length between the first and second floor of the house."

Ary apparently came upon Rowland curled up in insulation and began biting Rowland's right arm. According to the report, Rowland emerged with Ary pulling him out by his arm.

After being treated at the hospital for superficial bite wounds, Rowland was booked into the Carson City Jail. He is being held without bail on the parole violation charge.
