If you're looking for some place to take the kids this weekend without the scarier traditions of Halloween, a number of churches around the area offer a variety of alternative fall festivals.

• The Salvation Army Harvest Carnival, 5-7 p.m., The Salvation Army, 661 Colorado St., Carson City. Games, prizes, cotton candy, cupcake walk, popcorn. Free admission. Family fun. Canned food donations appreciated. 775-887-9120.

• Fall Festival, 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Frontier Plaza Parking Lot, 1855 N. Carson St. The Church On North Carson Street will host a free festival for kids. Features prizes, music, candy, cakes, food, drinks and more. Call 883-0202.

• Safe Halloween Fun Night, 6-8 p.m. Saturday St. Paul's Lutheran Family, 12-1 N. Saliman Rd. Kids of all ages welcome for games,crafts, snacks and fun. 882-3020.

• "In the Blink of an Eye!" movie. 7 p.m. Sunday. Special Halloween showing at The Potter's House Christian Church, 3579 US Hwy 50E in Carson City. A dramatic movie about a man's dream that finally comes true. Call 775-721-5584.

• 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat, 5.-7 p.m., Sunday The Connection Church, 37 Enterprise Way, Dayton. Tons of candy, food, game booths, bounce house, clothes give away and it's all free. Call 775-246-8445.

• Harvest Festival at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2:30-5 p.m. Sunday. 1480 Douglas Ave., Gardnervillel. Children's activities, food, candy, worship music. Non-threatening costumes welcome.

• Calvary Chapel's Harvest Festival, 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road. Free food, drinks, games, candy, cookie decorating, cake walk, live entertainment. Admission is suggested donation of two unopened bags of candy per family. Non-frightening costumes encouraged. Information, 265-3259.
