RENO - Carson High's soccer team opened the Northern 4A season with a 1-1 tie against Reno Tuesday night.

"We were trying a few new things," Carson coach Randy Roser said. "We didn't play well. Our timing was off."

Reno scored within the first 10 minutes of the contest, and Carson matched that score late in the first half when Kianha Pimental sent a cross to Josie Daggs, who beat the Reno keeper.

"That was a very nice play," Roser said. "She (Daggs) had to beat a defender and then beat the keeper from the right side."

Neither team was able to score in the second half.

"We had a few opportunities," Roser said. "We just weren't able to finish."

Emmy Heller played the entire game in goal for the Senators. Natalie Stevens and Kate Schulz were praised for their efforts.

Carson, 0-0-1, returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Reed.

MCQUEEN STOPS Carson GIRLS tennis

Emily Collins led the Carson girls tennis team with a 3-0 record but it wasn't enough for the Senators to beat McQueen Tuesday.

The Lancers won the match 11-7.

Ashley Saarem also picked up a win in singles competition. Saarem rallied from 5-1 to defeat Lisa Wang 7-5.

Picking up wins in doubles were: Krista Stocke and Christina Gallegos, who won two matches on the day, and Jessica Fleming and Ashleigh Potter, who went 1-2 on the day.
