Obituary: Helen Murphy Baker

Helen Murphy Baker, 90, a lifetime resident of Carson City, was born April 2, 1920, in Goldfield to Matt and Annie Murphy. She passed away Sept. 2, 2010, in Reno surrounded by her loving family. While serving in the Women's Army Corp during World War II, she met her husband, Don Baker. Helen was a life-long member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Annie Murphy; husband Don Baker; brother Daniel Murphy; and sister Margaret Walker. Helen is survived by her son, Gary Baker and wife, Linda of Anderson, Calif.; daughters Donna Myers and husband Stuart of Dallas, Texas, and Kathy Ault and husband Chris of Reno; sister Bernadina Baker and husband John of Carson City; sister-in-law Eldean Murphy of Carson City; four grandchildren, Lisa Savage (John), Chris Ault (Joanne), Amy Scolari (Brett), and Donald Myers (Kristin); and 10 great-grandchildren. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City. Burial will follow in Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery in Carson City.
