A Carson City non-profit, which relies on donations, is asking residents to temper their generosity next week as its thrift store undergoes some remodeling.

Gerie Stanko, with Friends in Service Helping, said the store at the corner of Carson and Long streets is overdue for a new floor. So from Sunday to Sept. 20, the contents will be moved into the parking lot where they will remain in a fenced secure area.

Because of the circumstances, FISH is asking that anyone wishing to make a donation hold off until Sept. 21.

No new items are being received until after the change. Pickups will resume on Sept. 21.

Stanko said the new floors give the thrift store the opportunity to clear out merchandise with drastically reduced prices. "The goal is to not move that stuff back inside," said Stanko.

FISH also is looking for volunteers to help with the moving of merchandise on Sept. 12 and then again when the store is reopened. If you would like to volunteer, or to arrange a donation pickup after the remodel, call FISH at 882-3474.

FISH provides food, clothing, shelter and medical aid to the homeless and hungry in Carson City and Lyon County. It also offers programs and referrals to families and individuals to help people to become self-sufficient.
