About 5,500 NV Energy customers had their power restored at 6 p.m. Sunday after a three hour outage that was caused by a portable cabana possibly blowing into a power line on Ponderosa Drive, said Karl Walquist, an NV Energy spokesman.

Traffic lights along U.S. 395 south of Fifth Street to Jacks Valley Road were affected by the outage on Sunday Walquist said as were stores such as Home Depot, Walmart and Costco, forcing some to scale back services or temporarily close.

Walquist said the cabana impacting into power lines south of Clearview Drive on Ponderosa Drive caused the outage, which affected the Overland substation.

Reports starting coming in around 5:45 p.m. that power had been restored.

An employee at Costco said the store lost power at 3 p.m., forcing associates there to close the store and salvage its produce.
