Despite the dedicated efforts of Dr. Gary Dankworth and the caring medical professionals - both in the Medical Ward and ICU - at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, John passed away on Saturday, Sept. 25.
He was born in Elk River, Idaho, on Dec. 11, 1919 to William Lloyd and Alvina Oriez Davis. He grew up in Montana and, following graduation from high school, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped to construct the "Going to the Sun Highway" in Glacier National Park. He married Sara Marjorie Hardin in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 1942. When the war was over, he returned to his position at the State Department, while at the same time, because of the GI Bill, he was able to get his masters degree In accounting. After 40 years in the federal government, he retired in 1980 as an accountant at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, D.C. He and Sara moved to Carson City in 1980.
John was a quiet and gentle man and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sara; his daughter, Gayle Sherman; his grandson, Ian Sherman, and his great-grandson, 9-month-old Hank. He is also survived by his constant companion, his beloved poodle, Kodi. We miss him so very much.
