Tuesday Hank Monk mounted the hurricane deck of the Lake Bigler stage, pulled the lines over his six horses and yelled "All Aboard" like a lost child in a blind alley. Doc Benton, leaning up against the front wheel, warned him not to tell old grizzly stories or he'll frighten all the British tourists off the route. In just a few minutes, Monk was telling the story of how a down-and-out John MacKay was given eight hundred feet of Con. Virginia by Monk to give him a start in the world.

100 YEARS AGO

Warden Baker has returned from Washoe forming road work using convict road laborers between here and Reno. The plan is to form two groups working from each end, moving the camps along the roadway as work progresses ... the state engineer has been consulted.

70 YEARS AGO

Gino Lencioni and Thurman Cross Jr. went to Sacramento Saturday and took delivery of motorcycles. The two-wheeled motor vehicles are late model, twin-motored Harley Davidsons.

50 YEARS AGO

Five Carson City patrolmen threatened to quit their jobs yesterday when they learned the City Council had appointed a city dog catcher at $35 higher starting pay than any other city employee received. The city dog catcher, at starting pay, will receive $5 more than a police patrolman with 18 months service.

20 YEARS AGO

Assembly lawmakers questioned the makeup of the state Board of Contractors, citing potential conflicts of interest.

West Wendover may get legalized prostitution.
