The Carson City Planning Commission will consider this week a special use permit request from the Carson City School District and Carson City Parks and Recreation Department to allow the construction of new classroom additions at Empire Elementary School.

The school is located at 1260 Monte Rosa Dr. and 1407 La Loma Dr., in public zoning. The district wants to build new classroom additions to the existing school as part of the 2010 school bond, replacing the current portable classrooms.

The commission also will consider a variance request from the district for parking spaces. Additional parking is proposed, but the number of spaces would be less than the number required by municipal code.

In other matters, the commission is set to:

• Discuss making a recommendation to the Carson City Board of Supervisors to amend an ordinance regarding Historic Resources Commission membership.

The HRC comprises seven members, but the seventh seat has not been filled for the last two years.

This proposal would change the membership requirement to say that at least one member, but not more than two, serve from each of the five currently established qualification-for-membership categories.

• Consider a special use permit request from Allyson Wong to allow a residential dwelling, multi-family apartment, on property zoned Retail Commercial, located at 1206 N. Roop St.

The Planning Commission meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.
