DAYTON - Kathie Arias won two individual events for Dayton to lead the Dust Devils to a fourth-place finish at the annual Dayton Invitational Saturday.

Spring Creek won with 110 points, while Dayton was fourth with 90. Sierra Lutheran was 11th with eight points.

On the boys' side, Fallon won with 182, while Sierra Lutheran was fourth with 55 and Dayton was fifth with 53.

Because of technical difficulties, the final team scores don't include the discus events. Because of computer difficulties, only Dayton results were available at press time.

Arias won the shot with a throw of 40 feet and the discus with a toss of 128-7. Coach Mike Paul said it's the first time she's been at 40 feet in quite a while. Arias also anchored the winning thrower's relay.

Katrina Breithaupt won the 1,600 with a school-record of 5:43.66.

Lettie Lynch was third in the 200 at 27.9 and fifth in the 100 at 13.91. D.J. Ply equaled her PR in the pole vault with a mark of 8 feet.

On the boys' side, Dayton did pretty well even without the services of two of its top performers, Manuel Castaneda (shot put, discus) and Kage Walker (high jump).

Cody Yeater won the triple jump (39-4) and was second in the high jump at 6 feet. John Serrano was fourth in the shot put (42-3) and fourth in the discus (123-5). Cameron McGifford was fourth in the 300 hurdles (43.06).

Dayton will be at the Yerington Relays next Saturday.

WILDCATS SWEPT

Snow College pitchers held Western Nevada to nine hits in two games en route to a 7-0 and 8-2 sweep of the Wildcats Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend in Las Vegas against College of Southern Idaho.

"We struggled this weekend at the plate," said Leah Wentworth, WNC head coach. "Our pitch selection was poor. Their pitching was nothing special. We would swing at change-ups too early in the count. Jordan (Thomas) had a good weekend for us."

Thomas went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader, collecting two hits in each game. In the second game, she drove in both WNC runs with a double and homer.

In the opener, Snow scored two in the first, three in the third and two in the sixth. Besides Thomas' two hits, Sarah Cudahy and Ashley Gleason had a hit apiece.

In the second game, Melanie Pfeiffer complemented Thomas with two hits of her own. Cudahy also had a hit.

Ashley Hall was the losing pitcher in both contests.
