Darrell Moody: Terrelle Pryor got what he deserved

Let me start out by saying that Terrelle Pryor got what he deserved.

Why shouldn't Pryor be penalized by the NFL? He went out and knowingly hired an agent because he didn't want to sit out five games at Ohio State. He made himself ineligible, the NCAA didn't rule him ineligible.

Why do you think that is agent didn't argue the penalty? He knows what's going on. The most important thing to Pryor and his agent is that he get a chance to play this year. Coming in so late, it's highly doubtful that he would have played in any of the first five games so it is a moot point.

I wish that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had made him wait until next April. That would have served Pryor right. Maybe that would have sent a message to all the NCAA players around the country.

I resent the NFLPA coming in and telling Pryor's agent and attorney to fight the ruling. Hey guys, he's not even an NFL player yet, so until he's drafted and signed, butt out.

We don't even know if Pryor will be taken. He's certainly athletic enough, but I have my doubts on his ability to be a drop-back passer in the NFL.

Passing is what the NFL is all about.

The way the supplemental draft works is that teams submit a list and indicated what round they would take certain players. If more than one team chooses to claim Pryor, the team that takes him the highest would get his services and that team would lose the potential same-round pick next April.

I could see a team taking on Pryor with a fifth or sixth-round pick. He is a project, and with the right instruction, could develop.

The Raiders' name keeps coming up when Pryor's name is mentioned. If Al Davis does this, it would be another mistake made by the organization. The Raiders have some young QBs who are still developing. There is no need to bring a multi-year project on board.

I'll readily admit that I'm getting sick and tired of seeing the Giants offense struggle so mightily so late in the season.

I assume that the pitching staff probably figures it has to throw a shutout each time out, and that's not fair nor should it be expected. Tim Lincecum is 11-10 with an ERA of less than 3. Go figure. That speaks volumes about the lack of support.

The moves that Brian Sabean has made haven't injected a lot of spark or improved numbers. Carlos Beltran hasn't hit for a high average and recently went on the disabled list and Jeff Keppinger has been so-so. I was a fan of the Bill Hall signing, but he played very little and also went on the disabled list.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the Giants needed to go after a front-line catcher; somebody with a little pop in their bat. Eli Whiteside will never be more than a dependable No. 2 catcher. He doesn't swing the bat well enough to be anything but a backup.

Heck, I would have traded Jonathan Sanchez for a good catcher in a heartbeat. We don't know if Buster Posey will be the same player when he comes back, and the Giants have to be thinking about that.

I love the instant offense that Hunter Pence brought to the Phillies. How seriously did the Giants think about him? I would think that the Giants would have been able to keep Pence. He's younger and faster than Beltran, and you need wheels to play at AT&T, especially in right and center.
