LAS VEGAS - "It is amazing what a little sleep will do," Carson High volleyball coach Robert Maw said about his team's performance on Saturday.

After leaving for Vegas in the wee-hours of Friday morning, the Senators struggled to a 0-3 record. However on Saturday, after a full night of sleep, Carson went 3-1 at the Las Vegas Tournament.

Carson beat Meadows (25-9, 25-10), Basic High (25-13, 25-16) and Cedar City (Utah) (25-19, 25-21) before falling to Palo Verde (25-20, 21-25 and 14-16).

"It was neat. They played with a ton of heart," Maw said.

Leading Carson was Courtney Hack with 55 assists on the day to go along with 10 aces. McKenzie Price added 47 assists. Brooklyn Maw had 31 digs. Sarah Lushina had 26 kills on the day. Micaela Von Winkle added 21.

Carson 3-4 on the year plays at Whittell on Thursday.

Host Yerington wins tournament

YERINGTON - Yerington rolled to a victory in its own tournament, knocking off Fallon 25-15 and 25-16 in the finals.

The Lions went 9-0 in the two-day event.

Makenna Lommori had 14 kills, 12 digs and nine assists in the title match. Brooke Aiazzi added seven digs and six kills. Amber Veil contributed six digs, while Savena Rogers and Arcelia Arrellano added three assists apiece.

Meanwhile, the Dayton volleyball team struggled to an 1-3 record at Yerington.

The Dust Devils opened with a two-game loss to South Tahoe, and then bounced back with a three-set win over Fallon, before dropping a match in three games to Lowry. The Dust Devils closed out the tournament with a two-game loss to Whittell.

Coach Monica Halverson said she could see her team was tired during the Lowry game. However, the team suffered a scare when star player Madison Foley suffered a foot injury against Whittell.

"We had our moments," Halverson said. "We just hit a rough patch. I am glad we have the two tournaments to work out the kinks before beginning league play."

Dayton is now 2-5 on the season.
