Arlene Olga Johnson Lumley, a 35-year resident of Douglas County, died December 18, 2011. Arlene was born July 8, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The daughter of Dr. Olga Holie Johnson, a "pioneer" woman physician in Moorhead, Minnesota. Arlene was married for more than 30 years to the late Paul Wardell Lumley, a home builder at South Lake Tahoe and Carson City.
Among her survivors are daughter Nancy Lowery of Carson City; daughter Paula Sauvageau of Portland, OR; son Arnie Braafladt of Morgan Hill, CA; stepdaughter Joanne Winslow of Shingle Springs; and stepdaughter Paula Orshowski of Fairfield, MT. She also is survived by her two granddaughters Nicole Yvonne Braafladt Farrell of Kneeland, CA and Sarah Arlene Braafladt Shaffer of Wenatchee, WA.
Arlene was an accomplished pianist, and graduated with a degree in music from Humboldt State University. She was the organist at the First Baptist Church at South Lake Tahoe for more than 20 years and, more recently, was an active member of the widows group and Over the Hilltoppers at Hilltop Community Church in Carson City. Arlene previously was an avid motorcycle and snowmobile rider with her late husband, Paul, and they enjoyed touring the United States and Canada in their recreational vehicle. Until recently, Arlene was secretary of the Lake Tahoe Snowmobile Association.
A celebration of Arlene's life will be 2:00 pm, Friday, December 30th at Hilltop Community Church in Carson City. Bright-colored dress is requested by Arlene. Arrangements entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you may make contributions in Arlene's memory to the Salvation Army or Hilltop Community Church, Carson City.
