Body that of missing Reno man

INCLINE VILLAGE - The body of a hiker who went missing in late November has been found by two search and rescue volunteers in proximity to the Whites Creek Trailhead.

On Wednesday, the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office formally identified the body as Rick Gentry, 55, of Reno, who was last seen Sunday, Nov. 21, when he left to go hiking in the Galena Creek Regional Park area south of Reno and north of Incline Village, as a strong winter storm began to hammer the region, said Armando Avina, public information officer for WCSO.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Volunteers were training their cadaver dog Tuesday when they discovered Gentry's body nearly three miles away from the Whites Creek Trailhead parking lot. The Whites Creek trail traverses through Galena Creek Regional Park.

The body was located in rugged, steep terrain underneath two feet of snow, Avina said. It was found within 200 yards of items known to belong to Gentry, which were found during the initial search and rescue effort in late November.

Blizzard conditions and avalanche danger compromised search efforts in the week following Gentry's disappearance, as workers intermittently called off the search when weather conditions grew dangerous.
