COLLEGE: WNC loses two 1-run games

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Arizona hasn't been the nicest of places for the Western Nevada College baseball tam.

After dropping a 9-8 decision on Tuesday to Chandler-Gilbert on a two-out wild pitch in the ninth inning, the Wildcats fell to 4-6 overall after losing 6-5 to Central Arizona on Wednesday.

WNC continues its five-game swing through Arizona when it plays Central again today. Brandon Jackson (0-1, 1.69) gets the call on the mound for WNC.

Chris Garrison was tagged for four runs in 7.1 innings on Wednesday.

Central enjoyed a 6-2 lead entering the top of the ninth, only to see WNC close to 6-5 on a run-scoring single in the ninth by Beau Day and a two-run single by Zach Hendrix. The game ended with WNC leaving the bases juiced.

Tanner Nielsen led WNC with three hits, two runs and an RBI.

In the loss to Chandler-Gilbert, Matt Robertson yielded five first-inning runs. However, WNC battled back to take an 8-7 lead with two in the second, two in the third, one each in the fifth and seventh and two in the ninth. That set the stage for the two-out wild pitch or passed ball that snapped an 8-all tie and sent WNC down to its second straight loss.

Sean Potkay led WNC with a 3-for-4 effort and four RBI. he had a homer and two doubles. Kevin Taylor went 2-for-4 and Bobby Pappin singled home two runs

Over the weekend, WNC snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday when it knocked off Pima 1-0 behind eight shutout innings by former Fallon star Teryn Smith.

Taylor singled in the game's only run in the seventh.
