LEGISLATURE 2011: Cell phone bills introduced in Nevada Senate

(AP) - Two bills targeting cell phone use while driving have been introduced in the Nevada Senate.

SB140 would prohibit the use of a cell phone or other handheld wireless device while driving.

The bill carries penalties starting at $250 for a first offense, which would increase to $1,000 and suspension of a driver's license for a third offense.

Hands-free devices would still be allowable.

Another bill also introduced Thursday targets teenagers and would prevent anyone under 18 from texting or using a cell phone while driving.

The measures were referred to the Senate Transportation Committee.
