MOODY: Decision time is near for Carson's Parker

The national signing day for high school football players is Feb. 2, and all eyes in Carson City will be on senior defensive end/wingback Jon Parker.

The 6-foot-4 235-pound Parker, who helped Carson to a share of the 4A football championship and a trip to the regional finals, has taken official recruiting visits to Nevada and UNLV, according to Carson football coach Blair Roman. Parker also has scheduled a visit to Abilene Christian next weekend. Parker told me earlier that his dad favored Abilene Christian.

UNLV coach Bobby Houk made a home visit during the season and watched Parker play a late-season game at Carson. Roman said UNLV sees Parker as a tight end.

"He enjoyed (his Vegas trip) a lot," Roman said. "I think he's developed a positive relationship with the coaches there."

Just this past week, Roman said he got a call from the University of Arizona asking about Parker. Roman said he sent off film of Parker.

"I don't know if they are trying to fill a need or what," Roman said. "Their assistant coach who recruits the area came by last spring. They are showing some interest in Dylan (Sawyers), too."

Josh Peacock, who helped Carson to a Sierra League football title two years ago, was home on winter break from Hiram College in Ohio.

Peacock enjoyed a successful freshman season. He started several games and finished with 44 tackles. He intercepted one pass and returned two kicks for 12 yards.

Peacock has now turned his attention to basketball. He is a member of Hiram's junior varsity basketball team, which plays junior colleges, prep schools and other four-year schools in the area who have a JV program.

To say that McQueen's three-sport star Rollins Stallworth has had a tough senior year is an understatement.

Stallworth, the son of former Hug head football coach Rollins Stallworth, is expected to undergo surgery soon to repair a torn meniscus. He was averaging 13 points a game for the Lancers, but didn't see action against Carson this past Friday because of that injury. According to reports, he is expected to be ready for track season.

Stallworth missed several football games this year thanks to a shoulder injury. He suffered a concussion against Liberty in the state semifinals and missed the state title game against Bishop Gorman.

When I talked to Stallworth's dad at the Wild West Shootout earlier this year, he said that his son was being recruited for both football and track. Undoubtedly, he could probably play all three sports if he decided to go to a smaller school.

Fired Michigan football Rich Rodriguez donated a bunch of his Michigan apparel to the Salvation Army recently.

The local Salvation Army set up a tent and auctioned off the apparel. A total of 161 items brought the local Salvation Army more than $12,000. Not a bad haul, but why would Wolverine fans want to wear something that was worn by a coach, who had the once-proud program going backward before he was fired?

It was a nice gesture on the part of the outgoing coach, who I'm sure will be back coaching somewhere in the next couple of years.
