Foster Family Denim Distribution Day

Come on down to this event if you are a Northern Nevada licensed foster parent and bring your school-age foster children to attend the fifth annual Foster Family Denim Distribution Day. Foster children may select new jeans, socks and underwear from the donations collected during the 2010 Reno Rodeo Denim Drive. I worked this last year with the amazing woman that coordinates this event, Marie Baxter. I can tell you it is fun for the children to pick out their own clothes and really get to know how much people out in the community care for them. It was very moving to watch all the cowgirls and cowboys make it a very special day for all. So load up the wagons and bring the kiddos to Reno. I can't wait for this Saturday. If you need more information, the website is listed below. Thank you again to the people of Northern Nevada for their generosity and of course the Reno Rodeo Foundation. Limited infant and toddler items will be available. All clothing is distributed on a first-come first-served basis.

Friends of Nevada Organics Fundraiser

This next event is long overdue as a fundraiser to help support local farmers. Come and get to know about the local organic causes in our state that we can help support. And you can purchase organic produce here in Nevada. Come join the Friends of Nevada Organics for organic wine, beer, spirits and food tasting. Meet and talk to local farmers. Both my grandparents had farms while I was a kid, I really appreciate this new and exciting way to learn about local groups such as the Great Basin Community Food Coop or talk to local farmer, organic promotion and education expert, Rick Lattin from Lattin Farms. This event will be an eye opener as well as tasty.

WHAT: You're invited to attend the Organic Wine Tasting Event

WHEN: 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28

WHERE: Reno's Whole Foods Market

Girl Scout Cookies

Went for a drive near my home and saw a "Cookies are Here" sign in the yard. That's right, there are Girl Scout Troops all over town and you can pre-order now for only $4 a box. Yes, I was a Girl Scout and, trust me, helping girls in this organization, with even the purchase of one box of cookies, is money well spent.
