DAYTON - Dayton jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 59-40 win over Fernley Friday night.

The Dust Devils held a 16 point halftime lead. Dayton used balanced scoring led by Dylan Taylor with 15 points. Jake Koch chipped in 10 points; Kage Walker and Adan Gomez each added eight points.

Coach Jason Santos said Dayton's strong man-to-man defense shutdown Fernley. The Dust Devils were able to force a lot of turnover that led to easy baskets.

Santos said Marcos Macias added a fastbreak dunk that energized the team.

Dayton, 13-4, travels to Lovelock for a 3:30 p.m. game today.

Fernley's press caused Dayton some problems during the second and third quarters en route the Vaqueros 60-27 win Friday night.

Dayton was down 10-6 after the first quarter before being outscored 36-12 over the second and third quarters.

Coach Cliff Serawop praised the play of Andrea Ramirez who stepped up to lead the team with nine points, six of them in the fourth quarter. He also credited her rebounding.

Maribel Ledezma scored four points in the first quarter on her way to seven for the game.

Dayton, 6-12, play at 2 p.m. today at Lovelock.


SIERRA LUTHERAN WINS

The Sierra Lutheran girls team picked up its first win in school history over Pyramid Lake, 45-22, on the road Friday night.

The Falcons were up 20-11 at half and had a big fourth quarter to pull away.

Tiffany Patrick and Mckinze Tynes paced the team with 10 points apiece. Tynes added nine rebounds.

Mariah West added nine points and eight steals. Stephenie Nieri added 12 rebounds.

Sierra Lutheran, 8-8 overall and 4-3 in 1A, hosts Smith on Tuesday.

Carson beats Galena

Rafe King scored 26 points to lead Carson to a 69-46 win over Galena Friday night in Carson.

Nate Brown added 11 points, while Tommy Champion and Bruce McIntosh added nine points each. Jay Lanuza finished with eight points.


FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

DAYTON CAN'T RALLY

The Dayton freshman girls basketball team couldn't rally after a first quarter deficit in a 44-31 loss at Fernley on Friday.

Cora Mebius led the team with eight points, 11 rebounds and nine steals. Kylie Pack added six points and five rebounds. Lettie Lynch added five points.

The Dust Devils, 5-8, play Spring Creek and South Tahoe today at Fallon.
