Two men are in jail after they allegedly cut down an NV Energy microwave tower on Geiger Grade to sell for scrap metal.

Raymond L. Yeoman, 31, and Shane R. Donovan, 22, both of Carson City, were arrested at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday when an NV Energy employee witnessed them cutting down a reflector on the side of the

mountain.

When a Carson City deputy arrived, Yeoman allegedly said he thought the metal reflector was abandoned and that it had tipped over so he and Donovan figured they would cut it up and sell the metal in Reno.

An NV Energy official told the deputy that the microwave feed would have been lost if it had been tipped over and estimated it would cost $100,000 to $150,000 to replace.

The lost connection affected Carson City, Storey County and South Lake Tahoe.

Yeoman and Donovan were arrested on suspicion of grand larceny and destruction of property, both felonies. Bail was set at $30,000.
