Capital City Center gets facelift

The Capital City Center, a strip mall on East William Street, is shining a little brighter this week after having just undergone an exterior remodel.

Property manager Vicki Hone, president of the Hone Company, said she is pleased with the results.

"We gave it a new paint job using more modern colors, added decorative rock, added a patio trellis, raised the height of the facade, and added new flashing," she said.

At the same time, longtime tenant AT&T doubled its space from 1,280 square feet to 2,560, and Carson City Locksmith moved into Unit 1, expanding to 2,016 square feet.

Although the business lineup might look a little different to customers from the street, everyone is still accounted for, she said.

Other tenants of Capital City Center at 1894 E. William St. (located behind NAPA Auto Parts) include the UPS Store, Papa Murphy's, Pizza, U.S. Sub Base and RE-NU Salon & Spa. Most have been tenants since the mid-nineties. The newest is the salon, Hone said, which has only been there a few years.

J.J. Heyer, who owns the Locksmith shop with his father, John, said they've moved only a few doors down to the west, but are enjoying the additional space.

"We have quite a bit more room, and it's a slow process setting up, but it's going to be excellent," he said.

"We really want to let people know we're still here. The natural habit for people is to look for us where we were, but we've moved just a few doors down, and we're still in business," Heyer said.

The shopping center originally was built in 1994, and despite the recession, the center's owners wanted to spruce up the property.

"The owners want their centers to look nice," Hone said, "and when AT&T wanted more space, we all worked together on a design. You want to keep your good tenants, so you work with them, so this is refreshing."

The refurbishing was handled by H. Ken Bartlett of H&K Architects in Reno, who did the design work, and Miles Construction, which did the actual building.
