130 YEARS AGO

Several grizzly bears have been seen in the neighborhood of Cold stream that flows through Donner Meadows. This will be interesting news for members of the Stock Board who left for a few days fishing in that area. It is a pleasant thing when he has hooked a two-pound trout to find that a bear is debating whether a San Francisco broker will agree with his digestion before or after wild strawberries. (Truckee Republican)

All sorts: This is the weather for the proper enjoyment of Klein's beer.

70 YEARS AGO

Blonde Priscilla Lane permitted barbers to cut off two locks of her cornsilk hair to forward to Washington in response to the army's appeal for blonde hair to be used in air force meteorological instruments. Much of the blonde hair for such purposes came from northern Europe until the war, and now the army must look to America's blondes for the perfect texture.

50 YEARS AGO

20 YEARS AGO

The Fourth of July celebration in Carson City brought out patriotic fun all over town including Mike Bartlett of Carson City, placing second in the potato sack race; a large National Air Guard sky crane helicopter flying just over the heads of parade goers on Carson Street.

10 YEARS AGO

Loren Walker, a former Carson High School student and photography student at the University of Nevada in Reno placed third for her photograph. She was awarded a scholarship to the Hallmark Institute of Photography.
