Bryan brothers reach French Open semifinals

PARIS (AP) - American twins Bob and Mike Bryan finished off a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan on Wednesday to reach the French Open doubles semifinals.

The top-seeded Bryan brothers are seeking their second title at Roland Garros and 11th Grand Slam overall, which would tie the Open era record set by Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde.

"We've been kind of looking at that since the Aussie Open and talked about it a little bit," Mike said. "That's another huge record."

The Bryans' quarterfinal was suspended because of darkness a night earlier at 5-all in the third set.

"Definitely it was hard to sleep, because you're actually thinking about each serve you're going to hit," Bob said.

The Bryans won the last four points of the match, then celebrated the victory with their signature chest bump. In the semifinals, they'll face unseeded Eduardo Schwank of Argentina and Juan Sebastian Cabal of Colombia.

In the women's doubles semifinals, the Czech pair of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka beat Vania King of the United States and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-3 to reach their first Grand Slam final.

In the second game of the second set, Hlavackova hit a smash that bounced off the court and hit King in the face.

King and Shvedova won the Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles last year.

Hlavackova and Hradecka never had reached the quarterfinals at any Grand Slam tournament.

"This year, there was no Williams in the draw," Hlavackova said. "And I said: 'They're not here, let's win it."'

She and Hradecka lost to Serena and Venus Williams at the French Open in 2009 and 2010, and at the Australian Open last year. But the Williams sisters are sidelined by health issues and neither is at Roland Garros.

Hlavackova and Hradecka now face Sania Mirza of India and Elena Vesnina of Russia, who eliminated the U.S. duo of Lisa Raymond and Liezel Huber 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

In the mixed doubles semifinals, the top-seeded pairing of Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia edged Nadia Petrova of Russia and Jamie Murray of Britain 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). In the final, they'll play Scott Lipsky of the United States and Casey Dellacqua of Australia, who beat Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia and Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 7-6 (5), 2-6, 1-0 (12).
