Mike Thomas will present a slide-show lecture "The Messier Marathon"about the 18th century Astronomer Charles Messier Saturday, March 5. The observatory opens at 6 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. An all-night observing session will continue until sunrise Sunday.

During his career, Messier compiled a catalog of 110 objects, including galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters. Every year, astronomers try to locate and observe as many of these celestial wonders as possible. March 5 is the best night to make the attempt. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the all-night observing session and lecture will be rescheduled for Saturday, April 2.

Please remember that the Observatory will not open if it is snowing or there is snow on the roads.
