Company looking

to fill 100 positions

One of the region's newest companies, LACO, Inc. said it plans to provide 100 new jobs within the next two years.

The company is a full-service turnkey manufacturer specializing in wire and cable assemblies, sub-assemblies and final assemblies.

Established in 1991 and headquartered in Livermore, Calif., the company has been a preferred partner of many OEM companies. It recently expanded its operation to Reno and is currently holding interviews for several positions at its new 36,000 square foot facility located at 1150 Trademark Ave.

The company estimates the job count to reach 200 by the end of its fifth year in operation.

Networking and wine event for builders

The Builders Association of Northern Nevada will host a win and networking event at 5 p.m. April 5 at the Peppermill Hotel Casino for the annual Table Top Night.

The event let's builders, contractors and suppliers set up exhibits for $200.

Admission is free, and so is the wine. Dinner is $35.

Reno attorney gets talk show

Reno Media Group announced the debut of The Jamie Kalicki Radio Show on KJFK radio AM 1230 last week.

The daily show airs 6-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

It's hosted by local business, tax and estate planning attorney Jamie Kalicki. Each show focuses on a current event topic and how it affects Northern Nevadans.

The show covers business, law, tax and investing. It will include regular guests with expertise in law, banking, marketing, real estate, investing and financial planning.

They will also take callers and answer phone, Facebook, Twitter and email questions.

Economic indicators from the U.S. Department of Commerce

- New orders for manufactured durable goods in February 2011 decreased 0.9 percent to $200 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders fell 0.6 percent.

Overall shipments rose 0.3 percent to $203 billion. Capital goods shipments rose 1.3 percent. Unfilled orders rose 0.4 percent. And inventories increased 0.9 percent in February 2011.

- Sales of new single-family homes in February 2011 were 250,000 at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate, 16.9 percent below the revised January level, and 28.0 percent below their year-ago level.

Secretary of State to speak at joint business meeting

Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller will speak at the next joint breakfast meeting hosted by the Northern Nevada Development Authority, Business Council of Douglas County and the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce on March 30.

Miller will discuss why reports of Nevada's demise are exaggerated.

Doors open at 7 a.m. inside the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395, in Minden. Cost is $20 with RSVP or $35 at the door.

Marketing group hosting trip to television station

At its April 6 meeting, the Carson Area Marketing & PR Network will take a field trip to KOLO-TV in Reno to tour the station's facilities and services.

The meeting is open to CAMPN members and PR/Marketing professionals who are prospective members.

Attendees will meet at 3:30 p.m. at the Business Resource Innovation Center, 108 E. Proctor Street in Carson City to carpool to the station. Cars leave no later than 3:45 p.m. Members from Reno can meet the tour at KOLO-TV, 4850 Ampere Drive at 4:45 p.m. Attendees should bring cash to help cover the cost of refreshments.

Curves Food Drive Kicks Off in April

In April, Curves gyms in the Carson City area will participate in the 13th Annual Curves Food Drive to collect non-perishable food and cash donations to benefit area food banks.

Current members who make a $30 donation or an equivalent donation of food are eligible to receive a Curves reusable Food Drive grocery bag.

And, from April 4-17, Curves will waive the membership fee for new members who donate a bag of non-perishable food or make a minimum donation of $30.
