DAYTON - The Dayton Dust Devils won the Lahontan League title by sweeping a doubleheader from Fernley Thursday, 18-8 and 12-1.
The sweep gives Dayton a 12-2 league record and a home playoff series against either Truckee or South Tahoe. Fallon finished second at 11-3 and will play at Elko.
The first game went five innings and the second six. Dayton went 3-0 against Fernley this year.
"This has been a great team effort," Dayton coach Jay Merrell said. "It was different guys stepping up every game; different guys coming through."
Conner Oliver had control problems in the first game, as Fernley scored six times in the first three innings en route to taking a 6-3 lead. Dayton scored five times in the third and never trailed again.
"Conner didn't have his best stuff," Merrell said. "He walked quite a few guys (8)."
Timo Ply went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs, while Logan Jones went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs. Jake Koch went 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBIs.
In the nightcap, Houston Bernston pitched a five-hitter in the easy win.
"He had a few walks, but he pitched well" Merrell said, "He pitched over a couple of errors."
The game ended in the sixth on Koch's three-run homer. Ply went 2-for-2 with a solo homer while Sam Hadley went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

CHS BLANKS HUG
RENO - Carson scored 11 times in the first inning en route to a 26-0 thumping of Hug on Thursday.
Jen Purcell went 4-for-5 with a homer, double and two singles. Moriah Lane went 3-for-5 with a grandslam and six RBIs, while Christa McGahuey went 3-for-5 with a single, double and triple. Lou Ashbaugh, Danielle Morrow and Lauren Knorzer all had three hits. Knorzer had three RBIs.
JV BASEBALL
CARSON ROLLS TO WIN
Danny Okimura went 4-for-4 to lead Carson to a 24-4 victory over Bishop Manogue on Thursday.
Gehrig Tucker went 3-for-3, while Tyler Valley, Jace Zampirro, Logan Krupp and Dominic Norton collected two hits each. Zampirro drove in four runs.
