SWIM: Carson girls finish third

Carson High's girls swim team finished third at Saturday's High Desert Championships at the Carson Aquatic Center.

Galena won with 466 points, Spanish Springs was second at 391 and Carson was third with 280. Reno was fourth with 278 with McQueen fifth at 238.

Reno won the boys meet with 430 points followed by McQueen at 349, Spanish Springs 317, Galena 309 and Carson 237.

Erin Chang took third in the 50 free (28.11) and was fifth in the 200 IM (2:35.58). She also swam a leg on the winning 200 freestyle (1:49.09) and the third place 200 medley relay teams (2:07.07). Sophie Holmes was second in the 100 free (58.63), and she swam a leg on the winning 200 free relay (1:49.09) and the 400 free relay which placed second.

Eli Everest took third in the 100 free (59.04). She swam a leg on the winning 200 free relay and the second place 400 free relay. Abi Pittman was fourth in the 100 breastroke (1:18.71), while Chloe Hearn was fifth (1:20.54). Danielle Stanka was fourth in the 500 free (5:58.09).

Tim Grunert was the only boys winner. He won the 100 breast in 1:04.20. He also swam on the fourth-place 200 free relay team, the fourth-place 200 medley relay and the third-place 400 free squad. Zach White, Gary Showalter and Angel Salas were members of the 400 free squad. White and Showalter along with Brandon Buonacorsi were on the 200 free relay squad. Ashton McIntosh, White and Showalter were on the medley quartet.

McIntosh was fourth in the 50 free at 24.29.


TRACK: ARIAS WINS DISCUS

WINNEMUCCA - Kathie Arias won the discus with a reported throw of 123 feet at the Lowry Invitational.

Arias also threw the shot put, but no mark was available. Madison Foley was third in the high jump at 4-10 and sixth in the triple jump at 30-5. Katrina Breithaupt was fourth in the 1600 at 5:53. The 400 relay quartet of Maribel Ledezma, Devon Cates, Alyse Fletcher and Lettie Lynch were second in 53.44.

On the boys side, Josh Koch was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-10, a personal best.


JV SOFTBALL:

CARSON SWEEPS

Carson closed out its season with a 17-2 and 15-1 sweep of Damonte Ranch in Carson.

In the opener, Maddy Von Duering pitched a 3-hitter and fanned seven. Malia Tiffer and Skylar Jones had three hits apiece. Kandis Tuttle, Sydney Knorzer, Von Duering, Aubrey Northrup and Ashley Andreas all had two hits apiece.

Erica Watson pitched a 2-hitter and fanned five in the second game. Von Duering, Morgan Barton and Andreas all went 3-for-3. Tuttle, Becka Breuer, Kaitlyn Jimmy and Northrup all had two hits.

Carson ended the season with a 15-8 record.
