Called to Glory

The Rev. Elmer D. Thyr was born in Spokane, WA , to Elmer and Louise Matilda (Irmer) Thyr on November 18, 1927. He grew up in Orange, CA and attended California Concordia College, Oakland, CA and graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1952. He served congregations in three states: Ascension, Allison Park, PA; Bethany, Lakewood, CA; Holy Cross, Los Alamitos, CA; Shepherd of the Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, CA,; Trinity, Riverside, CA; Trinity, Gardnerville, NV and Shepherd of the Sierra, Carson City, NV. Rev. Thyr was known as a mission planter.

On June 22, 1952, he married Maxine nee Jochner of Oakland, CA. Maxine was called to glory in 2007. He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Hamrick and Amy Thyr, one granddaughter Deanna Thyr, and numerous nieces and nephews.

One of his greatest joys besides preaching was spending time in God's nature with his fishing pole and his many nephews, fishing for salmon every summer in Alaska.

A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Carson City, NV, on November 5, at 2:00pm. Arrangements were in the care of Autumn Funerals & Cremations.
