Sierra Lutheran spikes its way to state

RENO - Sierra Lutheran qualified for next week's 1A state volleyball tournament by virtue of its second-place finish at Saturday's regional tournament.

Sierra Lutheran swept Eureka 25-18, 25-17 and 25-18 to reach the finals against Coleville. The Falcons took the opener against Coleville, 25-20, but lost 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23 in the last three games.

It's the first state appearance by a Falcon volleyball team.

Against Eureka, Tiffany Patrick had six aces, five kills, two blocks and 26 assists. Hannah Ediss served up three aces, had three kills, a block, two assists and a dig, Jessica Olsen had 10 kills and an ace, and Amy Westre had four kills, four blocks and a dig.

In the loss to Coleville, Patrick had an ace, 10 kills, six blocks and two digs. Ediss had two aces, eight kills, five blocks and six digs, while Olsen contributed seven kills, Westre had two kills and 13 blocks.

The Falcons are 24-12.
