The local Mallory Foundation donated $200,000 this month to build a triage lobby and renovate treatment areas at the emergency department of the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

The Mallory Foundation Triage Lobby will allow better patient flow and improved access at the hospital's emergency department, the hospital said. The department sees more than 33,000 visitors annually.

"We are honored that the Mallory Trustees have chosen to support Carson Tahoe with this gift," Cheri Glockner, Carson Tahoe development director, said in a statement. "They recognized the significant community benefits of enhancing Emergency Department processes and immediately stepped up to assist."

She added that gifts are "appreciated now more than ever" as the hospital copes with declining reimbursements and funding gaps created by providing care for the uninsured.

The donation will mean construction on the lobby can begin immediately, with an expected completion time of early 2012.
