130 YEARS AGO

Thanksgiving Day: The annual recurrence of Thanksgiving brings back many hallowed memories. We lovingly looked forward to the festivities of the occasion - the family reunion gathered around the fireside; the cheerful fire blazing on the hearth; the tin kitchen, the turkey on the spit and even came the cider, apples and mince pies. It is only just and consistent that today we bury all causes of discord and may the day appointed by the President and Governor alike be a day of Harmony, Praise and Thanksgiving.

120 YEARS AGO

Arlington House Thanksgiving Menu (in part): Eastern Oysters, raw, Soup: Mulligatawny and consomme, with noodles, Fish: Fried Trout, Entries: Terrapin Stew; Braised Sweet-breads, with Mushrooms, orange fritters, Roast: Prime Rib of Nevada Beef; Turkey, Cranberry sauce, Game: Boiled Quail on toast, roast duck; Cold Dishes: pickled beef tongue; Dessert: plum pudding, hard and brandy sauce, port wine jelly.

70 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: "Hardware, the better the tools the longer they last. We also carry - paints, oil, glass, hunting and fishing equipment. Geo. H. Meyers, Carson City, Nevada Phone 332." (Now the Secretary of State's office.)

50 YEARS AGO

Fallout danger: Washington - Government fallout experts have a series of defensive measures that could be put into effect if radioactivity in milk and other food reaches high levels. Stand-by controls. Federal subsidies to install newly developed decontamination equipment in milk processing plants across the country, delivery of government held surplus grain to farmers without cost, cattle would not be permitted to graze in open pasture.

30 YEARS AGO

The Arrowhead Community 4-H Club honored eight members. Mable Edmundson completion pins were presented to Erin Swezey, Adam Fulper, J.C. Fulper, Margy Freeman, Suzy Gamie, Brenda Van Sickle, Andy and Dawn Rodolph for completion of at least one project during the past year.

10 YEARS AGO

Concerned Citizens to Save Fuji Park and the Fairgrounds came together after a report that Carson City officials were considering selling the Park for commercial use.
