Teaming from Hawthorne to the various towns and camps beyond is at present quite brisk, as at all points merchants and others are getting in their winter supplies. Two wagon loads of wool, raised in the Carson Valley, were whipped to San Francisco yesterday. Ranch men say that there will this winter be better supples of hay in all the valleys than in many years.
100 YEARS AGO
To revive "The days of old, the days of gold and the days of forty-nine," is the proposal of Sam P. Davis to the Panama-California Exhibition Company. Davis hopes for acreage to rebuild a replica of Yankee Bar, Red Dog, Hangtown, Poverty Flat, Yuba Dam and the old-time California mining camps. Sam Davis is a contemporary of Bret Harte and Mark Twain known in every club and newspaper office in the world.
70 YEARS AGO
Work will begin in the next few days to remove the steel rails from the Virginia & Truckee railroad from Virginia City to Carson. The steel has been sold to the Hyman-Micheals Company of San Francisco for $5,000.
50 YEARS AGO
The first Punt, Pass and Kick contest for boys six through 10 years of age was a success and will be an annual event if Archie Pozzi, Jr., of the Pozzi Motor Company has his way. The project is in conjunction with the school authorities John Borda and Morse Burley.
