130 YEARS AGO

John Maguire, mail agent on the C. P. road was arrested in Wells for opening letters and extracting money therefrom. United States Marshal Ash brought him into jail yesterday and is held on a $5,000 bail. W. A. Robinson, post office clerk in San Francisco, arrested the accused.

100 YEARS AGO

Word has been received of the death of Mrs. E. B. Rail. The lady was for many years a resident of this city where her husband was in business. She leaves a large circle of friends who will regret to learn of her death. Mrs. Rail was in the best of health and was conversing with friends when she passed away.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Lester Smith entertained members of the Thursday club last evening. Auction bridge was played. At midnight delicious refreshments were served by Mesdames Jack Johnson, Harold Berger, Mark Amodei, Hugh Lamb, Emma Miller, Charles McGuigan and Bud Brady.

50 YEARS AGO

(Photo caption) Gov. and Mrs. Grant Sawyer, in 1864 costumes will again lead the Grand March at the evening session of the Square Dance Festival. Leading the festival will be Girl Scout Troop #76. Following will be a special exhibition of Concord Unicyclists, who will do a square dance on wheels.

20 YEARS AGO

Young Volunteers of Nevada Solid Ground program is recognized in a special ceremony as an exemplary program in combating alcohol and drug abuse. The ceremony was in Washington D.C.

10 YEARS AGO

Hot-air balloons will cause Carson City' s main thoroughfare to close a bit earlier than normal this year for the Nevada Day Parade.
