About 40 people gathered in front of the state Capitol Friday evening to protest the ongoing bear hunting season approved by the Nevada Wildlife Commission.

They marched from the Capitol to the Governor's Mansion to emphasize their objections to the hunting season, which has already seen seven bears killed.

The season allows the taking of up to 20 bears, six of which can be females.

NoBearHuntNV.org was formed to try to block the hunt before the season opened two weeks ago, but its efforts to get a judge to stop the hunt were rejected. The group says its polls show that up to 86 percent of Nevadans oppose the hunt, the first official season for bears in Nevada history.
