N. Nevada McDonald's to give away small coffees

McDonald's restaurants in the Reno-Tahoe-Carson City area will offer a free small cup of coffee to its customers starting Monday and running through Jan. 22.

There is no purchase necessary, according to a press release. The program comes a week after Northern California McDonald's rolled out the same promotion.

"This past year has been difficult for local residents with so many recent tragedies and a local economy that is still recovering. This is our way lending support to our community during these difficult times," said Tom McKennie, a McDonald's restaurant owner from Reno, in a statment. "The holidays are over and budgets are now extremely tight. We hope this will offer some comfort to our community and also warm them up a little during this winter season."

Participating Nevada restaurants include those in Washoe, Douglas, Lyon, Humboldt, Churchill, Pershing, Mineral and Lander counties and Carson City. California locations in Lassen, East El Dorado, East Placer and Nevada counties are also participating.
