Carson High wrestlers won six championships at Saturday's Carson JV Invitational at Morse Burley Gym.

Kaleb Wold (106), Sammy Mercado (113), Austin Kiesow (126), Colby Brown (145), Brady Rivera (170) and Brayan Burgos (heavyweight) were the CHS winners. Jose Calderon (195), Andrew Cunningham (138) and Tristian Wadsworth (132) all finished second. Jeremiah Abbott (120) was third and Alex Cunningham (138) was fourth.

"I thought we wrestled well," Carson coach Jim Franz said. "Austin Kiesow showed me some drive today that I haven't seen before. Today was his first tournament win. He'd been close a couple of other times."

Kiesow posted a 3-0 record. He won a a wild 21-16 match for the title. He led 16-7 after two periods and then fought off a late rally by his opponent.

Franz also was pleased with the performance of Andrew Cunningham, who went 2-0 before being pinned in his championship match.

For Kaleb Wold, it was business as usual. The Carson 106-pounder won his fourth tournament of the season, compiling a 3-0 record and winning by fall in the finals.

Mercado also went 3-0 and had an easy time in the finals with a 12-0 victory. Colby Brown, because of a crowded bracket, had to go 4-0 to win his title. He had a first-round pin in the finals. Rivera also went 4-0, including an easy tech fall win of 17-1 in the championship match.

There were only two heavyweight wrestlers, and Burgos beat his opponent twice to win the title.
