Carson Blue Jays

stopped by Knights

RENO - Despite three hits apiece by Gehrig Tucker and TJ Thomsen, the Carson Blue Jays dropped a 14-6 decision to the Reno Knights Thursday night at Reno High School.

The game was originally scheduled to be two-seven inning games, but was switched to one 9-inning game by mutual consent.

The loss dropped Carson to 2-7 heading into next Monday's game against the Reno Aces at Ron McNutt Field. Next Tuesday and Thursday, Carson will host doubleheaders.

Carson never led in this one, spotting the Knights a quick 4-0 lead. The Knights pounded the ball against Chase Blueberg, Casey Wolfe, Danny Guthrie and Chazz Nystrom.

Carson scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth.

Tucker went 3-for-3, while Thomsen was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Luke Maher went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI, and Jace Zampirro went 2-for-3.


Benefit run to help WNC player is Sunday

Western Nevada College softball players are hosting a race-run-walk event at 4 p.m. on June 10.

The event will start and end at El Charro Avitia. The entry fee is $25, and all monies collected are going to help pay the hospital bills of WNC softball player Melanie Pfeiffer, who was recently diagnosed with melanoma cancer.

Pfeiffer underwent surgery on June 1 and will attend the event, according to WNC officvials.

A fund for Pfeiffer has been set up through Bank of America. If you're interested in donating, you can go to any Northern Nevada B of A.

After the run is completed, the Avitia family will host a complimentary buffet.

Participants can register for the run at ww.active.com.

The 20th annual Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic is Sunday from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eagle Valley golf course.
