Art courses taught by local artist aim to develop talents

Local artist Deana Hoover will offer four workshops this month for those interested in developing their talents.

• The Second Saturday Arts Workshops will be an Introduction to Drawing with Charcoal from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 10 at Comma Coffee's "Between" classroom, 108-1/2 W. Fourth St.

The event costs $50. Students need to provide their own materials, including a basic set of charcoal pencils, a pad of 80-pound or heavier drawing paper, a pencil sharpener and an eraser. There will be a half-hour break for lunch. Students are welcome to pack a sack lunch or to eat at a nearby restaurants. Classroom space is limited, so early enrollment is advised.

• A Memoir Writing Class will be offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays from March 14 to April 4 at the Between classroom.

Cost is $100 with a 10 percent discount for returning students.

• Ladies' Night at Deana's will offer participants a chance to create a polymer clay amulet. The class is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 15 at Hoover's art studio, 15108 A W. Fourth St. The cost for the evening is $40 which includes wine, light refreshments and everything needed to complete the project. Group size is limited, so advance registration and payment is required.

• Intermediate Drawing Class will be taught by Hoover from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 20-April 3 at the Between classroom. This group will work to improve drawing and composition skills with a variety of subject matter. A basic understanding of drawing is required.

Cost is $100, with 10 percent off for returning students. Students will need to bring drawing pencils and paper to class. To enroll in any of the workshops or for more information, call 775-721-4453 or email deanasarts@yahoo.com.
