SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Adam Dunn doubled, homered and drove in four runs and the Chicago White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 6-3 Thursday, giving rookie manager Robin Ventura his first win.

Dunn entered the game with walks in his only three plate appearances. But he hit a towering three-run home run off Neftali Feliz in the first and added an RBI double to the right field wall in the third.

Feliz, moving from closer to the rotation this season, allowed three runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in his first start of spring training.

REDS 8, BREWERS 6

PHOENIX (AP) - Ryan Braun hit a two-run homer for his first hit of spring training but Chris Heisey had an RBI triple and Juan Francisco hit a solo homer in a four-run fifth inning to lead Cincinnati to a victory over Milwaukee.

Reds starter Mike Leake gave up three hits in two innings, but one hit was a solo home run to Mat Gamel in the second inning.

Mat Gamel also homered for the Brewers, who got a solid, two-inning effort from starter Zack Greinke.

MARLINS 5, METS 4

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Carlos Zambrano struggled with his control in his first start for Miami, allowing three runs while getting just four outs, and the Marlins beat the Mets.

Zambrano, who was traded to the Marlins for fellow starter Chris Volstad in the offseason, walked three and allowed three hits in 1 1-3 innings. All four outs he recorded were strikeouts.

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey allowed four runs and six hits in 2 2-3 innings. Pelfrey gave up hits to the first three hitters he faced, including an RBI single by Marlins third baseman Hanley Ramirez.

TIGERS 8, RAYS (SS) 1

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) - Doug Fister pitched three scoreless innings and Delmon Young hit a three-run homer for Detroit in a win over a Tampa Bay split squad.

Rays starter David Price left the game with minor neck spasms after the left-hander pitched two scoreless innings in his second spring start, giving up three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

The only hit Fister gave up was an infield single to Rays shortstop Reid Brignac in the third inning.

Miguel Cabrera had three hits for Detroit.

BLUE JAYS 6, YANKEES 1

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) - J.P. Arencibia and Travis Snider homered and Brett Cecil gave up one hit over two scoreless innings Thursday as Toronto beat the New York Yankees.

The Yankees learned earlier in the day that All-Star setup man David Robertson sprained his right foot when he stumbled on the stairs at his house. It's not known how long he will be out.

Adam Lind opened the second inning against Ivan Nova with a double to left-center, took third on Brett Lawrie's single and scored on Colby Rasmus' grounder to shortstop before Arencibia launched a drive over the left field wall.

The Blue Jays added two runs in the third on singles by Kelly Johnson, Jose Bautista and Lind off Nova, and Bautista scored on a passed ball by Francisco Cervelli.

ORIOLES 2, BRAVES 1

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Mike Minor pitched three scoreless innings in his second spring outing but Atlanta lost to Baltimore.

The Braves' left-hander allowed three hits and walked two to extend his scoreless streak to five innings.

Jason Hammel, who was acquired by Baltimore last month, allowed two hits and walked one in two innings. Hammel was sent to the Orioles by Colorado.

Eric Hinske's leadoff home run in the seventh gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead.

CARDINALS 9, RED SOX 3

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - Josh Beckett pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits, for Boston in a loss to St. Louis Cardinals.

Beckett has allowed three hits and no runs in five innings this spring.

Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia pitched two hitless innings in his first spring start, striking out four. Garcia did not allow a ball out of infield and started the game by striking out Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia.

GIANTS 5, PADRES 2

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Madison Bumgarner struck out five in three shutout innings in his first start of spring training and San Francisco beat San Diego.

Edinson Volquez, also making his spring debut, pitched through a case of nerves and allowed a run in two innings. Volquez was pitching for the first time in a Padres uniform since being acquired in a Dec. 17 trade with the Cincinnati Reds. He allowed two hits and a walk and struck out one.

San Francisco outfielder Angel Pagan had an RBI single in three at-bats.

ROYALS 5, ROCKIES 0

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Royals rotation candidates Felipe Paulino and Aaron Crow each pitched two scoreless innings and Kansas City beat Colorado.

Rockies starter Drew Pomeranz threw three scoreless innings despite pitching with an abrasion on the top of his thumb. Trainers visited the mound to check on Pomeranz with two outs in the second inning after he picked off Lorenzo Cain. But Pomeranz stayed in the game and struck out Brayan Pena to end the inning.

Yuniesky Bentancourt hit a solo home run that started the Royals' four-run rally against Josh Outman in the fourth inning.

Kansas City's Max Ramirez hit his third home run of the spring, a solo shot in the eighth.

ANGELS 6, INDIANS 5

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - Dan Haren worked two hitless innings for Los Angeles in his spring debut and the Angels beat Cleveland.

Angels slugger Albert Pujols was 0 for 2 with a walk, but still had fans buzzing by hammering a pitch from Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez far out of the ballpark, though it hooked foul.

Jose Lopez had a two-run homer and Ezequiel Carrera a two-run single for Cleveland, held hitless for four innings.

Jimenez allowed two runs in two innings. In a 31-pitch first, he gave up two runs, two hits, walked two and had a run-scoring wild pitch.

DODGERS 7, ATHLETICS 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Chris Capuano pitched two scoreless innings, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a victory over Oakland.

Projected as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter, Capuano gave up two hits and struck out three.

Alex Castellanos hit a solo homer for Los Angeles.

A's top prospect Jarrod Parker, acquired in an offseason trade with Arizona for Trevor Cahill, gave up two runs in two innings.

MARINERS 10, CUBS 3

MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Dustin Ackley hit a three-run homer to extend his torrid start to spring training, and Seattle beat the Chicago Cubs.

Ackley is 5 for 11 with four hits for extra bases: two doubles, a triple and a home run.

Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano is also off to a strong start, hitting his third homer - a solo drive off Kevin Millwood - and is hitting .625 (5 for 8).

Millwood allowed only one run on four hits in three innings, while Cubs starter Chris Volstad allowed one hit in three scoreless innings in his debut.

NATIONALS 8, ASTROS 0

VIERA, Fla. (AP) - Top Nationals prospect Bryce Harper was a last-minute scratch because of a tight left calf and Houston starter Livan Hernandez left in the third inning after being hit by a line drive in a game won by Washington.

Ryan Zimmerman, whose liner hit Hernandez, had his first home run of the spring among his two hits and two RBIs. Nationals starter Edwin Jackson struck out three and allowed two hits over four scoreless innings.

Harper, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, is day to day. His name was on the Nationals' travel list posted in the clubhouse Thursday morning for Friday's game against Miami in Jupiter.

Hernandez talked to reporters after his outing and did not think his injury was serious.

RAYS (SS) 1, TWINS 0

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Francisco Liriano struck out five of the nine batters he faced in Minnesota's loss to a Tampa Bay split squad.

Liriano, whose no-hitter against the White Sox last May was overshadowed by injuries inconsistency the rest of the year, gave up just one hit in three speedy innings.

The 23-year-old prospect Chris Archer got the start for the Rays and give up one hit and a pair of walks in two scoreless innings.

Denard Span continued to look good as he recovers from an injury-marred season for the Twins, hitting a single to open the game and adding two stolen bases. Rays leadoff counterpart Desmond Jennings notched hits on his first two at-bats to lead the Rays.

PHILLIES 5, PIRATES 4, 10 INNINGS

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Cole Hamels threw four-hit ball in 3 2-3 innings for Philadelphia in a win over Pittsburgh.

The 28-year-old left-hander struck out two and walked none.

Phillies outfielder Luis Montanez hit a game-ending homer off Pittsburgh right-hander Michael Dubee leading off the 10th inning.

Shane Victorino drilled a two-run home run and Hunter Pence went 2 for 3.

The Pirates rallied from a 4-0 deficit with a three-run sixth inning and Starling Marte's homer in the seventh.

In his second start, Pittsburgh right-hander James McDonald allowed one run on two hits in three innings.
