Walt files for re-election in Ward 4

Carson City Supervisor Molly Walt, who represents Ward 4, has filed for re-election.

"I am passionately dedicated to this community," she said Friday in a statement. "I am serious about the work necessary to create healthy lifestyles, multi-generational recreation spaces, true Nevada culture and the learning ecosystems that our citizens of all ages deserve. This, in turn, delivers public safety and a sustainable future for generations to come."

Walt, 43, was elected in 2008 and has lived in Carson City since 1994 with her husband and four children. She is an educator with two bachelor's and a master's degree.

Walt said she decided to run for re-election because there is a lot of unfinished business thatshe'd like to see completed.

One project that stands out for her, she said, is construction of the multi-purpose athletic center.

"The MAC is needed because our community has grown so large, we've outgrown one gymnasium," she said. "The continued growth of adult and youth footsol (soccer on a smaller field) programs and the basketball programs make it necessary, and what other things can we do when it's built? Volleyball? There is so much."

Walt also hopes the proposed knowledge and discovery center comes to fruition downtown.

"A large part of my campaign when I ran the first time was focused on revitalizing the downtown, and I firmly believe in the knowledge and discovery center. We need to look at moving forward. We cannot afford to remain stagnant," she said.

"Educating our workforce and our youth, and bringing opportunities to unemployed adults is what we need here, and I believe the knowledge and discovery center will be a catalyst for all of that," she said.

Walt's other commitment is to the Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau, where she serves as a member of the board of directors.

"I want to continue to support the CCCVB's efforts to move forward in a positive direction," she said.

In addition to serving on the CCCVB, she also sits on the Parks and Recreation Commission and was just elected as vice president on the Nevada Association of Counties board of directors.

"I remain focused on the hard work of creating lifelong learning and business opportunities for each citizen who wants them," she said. "With (a) commitment to working together, Carson City's brightest days are ahead."
