WNC swept by CSN to start 4-game series

HENDERSON - Western Nevada was knocked from the ranks of the Scenic West Conference unbeatens after dropping a pair of 5-4 decisions to College of Southern Nevada on Friday.

The losses dropped WNC to 8-2 in conference play heading into today's doubleheader.

Western Nevada led 1-0 in the fourth on a Derrick Pitts homer.

CSN scored three off Andrew Woeck, all three coming on a homer by Chad Whiteaker.

WNC made it 3-2 in the fifth on a Taylor Smart single, but CSN added a run in the sixth to make it 4-2 and knock Woeck out of the game.

WNC tied the game at 4 in the seventh on a two-run single by A.J. Hernandez.

Cory Welch hit a run-scoring single off Matt Robertson to win the game.

In the second game, WNC grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the third on a homer by Smart.

Southern Nevada exploded for four runs in the bottom of he third on four hits and an error against Tyler Spencer. Jordan Van Hoosier had the big blow with a two-run single.

Pitts tied the game at 4 in the fifth with a three-run homer off Andrew Daley.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when Rodee Anderson singled home Jack LaMarca, who had reached on a walk.
