Illness of the Governor: Although Gov. Kinkead has been advertised to be at various places the past week, and announced at actually being at a few, he has in reality been confined to his house with sickness. Yesterday his case seemed serious, but last night he was considered to be out of danger. The Governor has never been a skulker in his tent and is chafing under his forced absence from the field.

Many of the Greeks employed at Ely are making preparations to leave for their old homes across the seas. The same is reported from Denver and Cripple Creek. Aside from strike troubles, the threatened war in that section of the world is taking the men home. From all appearances, the strike will be of such duration that they can fight awhile and then return to the diggings.

70 years ago

Floyd Loveless, a 16-year-old escapee from the reformatory at Plaintield, Illinois, who traveled half way across the continent to a point several miles west of Carlin in stolen automobiles, yesterday took his last ride. The youth was placed in the "gas house" in which he is doomed to die for the brutal murder of Constable A.H. Berning of Carlin in August.
