RSVP fair returns to Mills Park

When Nevada Day rolls around, and the parade rolls through town, the fair rolls in, although not to stay.The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will be bringing in the fair to Mills Park for the 27th time starting Thursday.“It’s one of the three fairs we provide,” said Tannis Causey, the RSVP program director and fair manager. “The others are Mother’s Day and the Fourth of July.”The fair will feature carnival rides and games as well as a host of vendors selling everything from jewelry to metal artwork.But vendors selling hand-made wares will not be the only enticements for those who may fear heights or being spun at a high velocity as if one were in a centrifuge: food vendors ranging from tacos to hot dogs and back to Indian tacos and lemonade will line Mills Park.The fair is “critically important” to RSVP, Causey said.RSVP provides services, free of charge, to local senior citizens and their caregivers as well as acting as a clearing house for volunteers. “We’re hoping for 20,000 to pass through (the fair,)” Causey said.Those hoped-for thousands will range from kids to adults, with rides for all ages, she said.All-day ride wrist-band coupons are in Wednesday’s Nevada Appeal or online at nevadaruralrsvp.org under “RSVP Fairs.”
