LAS VEGAS — Two men dressed as Mormon missionaries told a man they wanted to talk about religion, but pulled out a gun and jumped him instead, Las Vegas police said Tuesday.

Authorities released home surveillance photos of two suspects who reportedly knocked on the door of a home near Flamingo Road and South Buffalo Drive the morning of June 27. The man who answered told police he talked with the two men for about five minutes before they jumped him and started punching him.

The victim told police the suspects held him at gunpoint, demanded property, and didn’t let him go until he gave it to them.

They then fled.

Sgt. Andrew Pennucci didn’t disclose information about the conversation between the suspects and the victim, and said he couldn’t speculate whether the men were legitimate missionaries.

Officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints didn’t immediately have comment on the incident.

One of the suspects is described as a white man about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 130-145 pounds. He was last seen wearing black slacks, black shoes and a black tie with a white long-sleeved dress shirt.

The other suspect is described as a black man between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall. Police say he’s 190-210 pounds, and was wearing an outfit similar to his partner’s.

Both appear in the video wearing black backpacks, and are estimated to be about 22-28 years old.
