Performer Mary Bennett, known in Carson City as leader of the Ghost Walk, will bring her interpretation of “Shirley Valentine” to the Brewery Arts Center on Sept. 7-8.
The show “Shirley Valentine: Fall In With The Idea Of Living” will feature Bennett reviving her role as Valentine, which initially was performed at the Bruka Theatre in Reno. She will perform at the BAC, in association with The Bruka Theatre, at 7 p.m. the first Saturday of next month and repeat her role in a 2 p.m. matinee the next day.
Written by Willy Russell and directed by Kristin Moffitt, the show is billed as holding up familiar aspects of life for inspection and enjoyment in a buoyant and comedic fashion. It also is touted as a witty look at the wild strategy a middle-aged woman comes up with to love being herself.
Bennett, a recent recipient of a Sierra Arts Foundation Fellowship grant, now is at the Bruka in Reno and is an artist in residence for the Nevada Arts Council and Sierra Arts Foundation. She continues to lead the Carson City Ghost Walk.
Russell’s other writing credits include plays and films such as “Educating Rita” and “Our Day Out” as well as the musical “Blood Brothers.”
Reservations for “Shirley Valentine” are recommended and can be made by calling the BAC at 775-883-1976 or going to www.accesscarsoncity.org, then clicking on Shirley Valentine. Tickets in advance cost $16 for students and seniors, $18 for general admission. All tickets at the door cost $20.
